Franz
Ferdinand is a group of Scottish rock, it was founded in 2001 in
Glasgow.
It
bears the name of the Archiduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. The
murder of Franz Ferdinand had precipitated the First World War.
In
late 2002 the group went to London in order to find a record company
and after having been in touch with Laurence Bell, president of
Domino Recording Company, they signed their first contract with the
independent label whose catalog also includes Pavement, The Pastels,
Clinic. After the release of the EP “Darts of Pleasure” in late
2003, Franz Ferdinand appeared on the cover of NME. Their debut album
“Franz Ferdinand”
was launched shortly after, in February 2004. Its release was
followed by tours in Europe, the US, Oceania, and Japan. During the
year they appeared in numerous festivals including Glastonbury and
Reading, as well The Eurockeennes.
Their
first album released in 2004 reached the third position of the
billion-selling albums in the UK and won a Mercury Music prize.
In 2005, they released a second album, “You could have it so mush better”, which contains among other titles “The fallen”, “Do you want to” and “Walk away”.
Their 3rd album “Tonight” was released on January 26, 2009. It contains “Ulysses” and “Lucid Dreams” singles. It is completed by the compilation of remixes named “Blood”, moving away from the original style of the group to get into a more techno influence.
